Introduction
Oil pulling, also known as “Kavala Graha” in Ayurveda, is a natural and practical technique for full body detoxification. Ayurveda, the traditional medicine system of Ancient India, mentions the benefits of oil pulling in detoxifying and purifying the entire body. This technique involves swishing oil in the mouth to excrete toxins through saliva. In this blog, we will explore the method of oil pulling in detail and understand its systematic approach to achieving a healthier body.
The Oil Pulling Process
To practice oil pulling, start by taking a tablespoon of coconut oil and swish it in your mouth every morning before breakfast, on an empty stomach. Make sure to pull and force the oil between all your teeth while squishing it in your mouth for about 15 to 20 minutes. Initially, you may feel tired after 5-10 minutes, but with time, you will get used to it.
After 15 to 20 minutes, the oil will become thin and milky white. Spit it out and rinse your mouth thoroughly with clean warm salty water. While rinsing, make sure to clean your teeth and gums with your finger or a brush. Using your finger is recommended as it helps ensure that the oil comes out completely.
Important Considerations
Here are a few important things to keep in mind while practicing oil pulling:
Perform oil pulling once a day for seven to eight days in a stretch, and then take a break from it.
Do not swallow the oil during the practice, as it may contain impurities and toxins.
Be careful not to spit the oil in the wash machine, as it can cause clogging of the pipes.
If you have any dental fillings, switch the oil gently during the practice.
You can use cold-pressed coconut oil, sunflower oil, or sesame oil for oil pulling. However, coconut oil is considered the best choice due to its antimicrobial activity, especially against Streptococcus mutants and Candida albicans.
How Oil Pulling Works
Ayurveda states that the tongue is connected to various organs such as the kidneys, heart, lungs, and small intestine. Oil pulling is believed to activate salivary enzymes, which absorb chemical, bacterial, and environmental toxins from the blood. The toxins are then removed from the body through the tongue.
By regularly practicing oil pulling, you can promote the overall health of your body. When toxins are eliminated from the system, the body functions more efficiently, allowing it to perform its job perfectly.
Conclusion
Oil pulling is an ancient technique for full body detoxification, recommended in Ayurveda. By incorporating this practice into your daily routine, you can experience the benefits of detoxification and purification. Remember to follow the systematic approach of oil pulling and be consistent in its practice. Take care of your oral health and enjoy the overall health benefits that come with a toxin-free body.
