The Science Behind Jeera and Saunf
Many people feel that their digestion needs improvement. Fortunately, two common ingredients found in our own kitchen can help – jeera (cumin seeds) and saunf (fennel seeds). These seeds are not only easily available, but they also offer numerous benefits for our digestive system.
Jeera seeds are rich in essential oils, vitamins A, E, and C, as well as compounds like thymol and cumin alide. These compounds have antimicrobial properties and can help reduce inflammation in the body. On the other hand, saunf seeds are high in fiber, calcium, magnesium, and vitamin C. They also contain volatile oil called anethole, which aids digestion.
Preparing Jeera and Saunf Water
There are two methods to prepare jeera and saunf water. The first method involves boiling the seeds, while the second method requires soaking them overnight.
Boiling Method:
Take one teaspoon of jeera seeds and one teaspoon of saunf seeds.
Add them to two cups of water and bring it to a boil.
Reduce the heat and let it simmer for about 10 minutes.
Strain the water into a cup.
You can consume this water warm or at room temperature.
Soaking Method:
Take the same quantity of jeera and saunf seeds as in the boiling method.
Wash the seeds and soak them overnight in water.
In the morning, strain out the seeds and drink the infused water.
Having jeera and saunf water on an empty stomach in the morning can yield the best results. Drink one cup of this water and wait for 30 minutes before having your breakfast. This water has a calming effect on your stomach and intestine, keeping your gut strong and healthy.
The Benefits of Jeera and Saunf Water
In today’s time, our gut is exposed to a lot of toxins due to the additives in food and junk food. Consuming jeera and saunf water can help maintain a healthy digestive system. It strengthens the gut, boosts the immune system, and enables the body to fight infections and inflammation.
However, it’s important not to consume excessive amounts of jeera and saunf water, as it can cause side effects like acidity, heartburn, or allergies in some people.
In Ayurveda, jeera and saunf water are known to balance the doshas and promote good health. Along with consuming this miracle water, there are other suggestions for taking care of our digestive health:
Choose foods that are easy to digest, such as fresh seasonal fruits and vegetables.
Include a little bit of yogurt or buttermilk in your meals.
Engage in moderate exercise each day, whether it’s yoga, sports, or playing with your family. Walking, especially after meals, is a gentle and effective exercise.
Keep your body well-hydrated and well-rested to benefit all the systems in your body. Remember, a happy body leads to a happier mind.
