Introduction
Common Skincare Mistakes. Your good health is reflected by the condition of your skin. A naturally glowing face immediately indicates good health. However, sometimes we make mistakes while trying to improve our skin condition. In this blog, we will discuss some common mistakes that can harm your skin and provide tips on how to avoid them.
Mistake 1: Rubbing Products into the Skin with Too Much Pressure
Applying pressure to rub skincare products into your skin can cause unnecessary pressure and stretching. This breaks down collagen and can lead to wrinkles and sagging skin. Instead of rubbing hard, gently pat or tap the products into your skin. This method allows the cream or serum to be absorbed more deeply without causing any friction on the surface.
Mistake 2: Not Changing Your Pillowcase Frequently
Pillowcases that are not changed regularly accumulate a layer of dead skin cells, sweat, oil, and dust on the surface. Such dirty pillowcases can harbor bacteria, leading to skin allergies or infections. To protect your facial skin and hair, it is essential to change your pillowcases at least two to three times a week. Washing pillowcases in hot water will efficiently disinfect them.
Mistake 3: Not Using Separate Towels
Sharing towels with others or using the same towel for face and body can lead to a transfer of microbes and spread skin infections. To maintain better facial skin, you should use a different personal towel for your face and body. It is always best to wash your towel every day or at least every alternate day, preferably in hot water.
Mistake 4: Exfoliating Too Much or Not at All
Exfoliation is the cleansing of dead skin cells from the outer layer of your skin. Too much exfoliation can irritate your skin, making it dry and patchy. On the other hand, too little exfoliation can cause your skin to look dull and result in clogged pores. It is sensible to exfoliate according to the needs of your skin. If you have sensitive skin, exfoliate mildly once a week. For oily skin, exfoliate every second day. And for normal skin, exfoliate twice a week.
Mistake 5: Not Checking the Ingredients of Skincare Products
Skincare products usually have labels that provide information about their chemical components. Not reading this information carefully can lead to unfortunate side effects. It is your responsibility as a user to check if the product contains any harmful substances such as carcinogens, endocrine disruptors, allergens, or irritants that are not suitable for your skin. Always protect yourself and your family by using products that are safe and suitable for your skin.
Mistake 6: Constantly Touching Your Face
Do you know what happens if you touch your face too much? Any impurities or germs can pass through your facial skin, and oil from one part of your face may spread to the other. Constantly touching your face can lead to infection and acne. Rubbing or pulling facial skin can also cause a loss of elasticity and premature wrinkles. The best strategy is to be mindful and create the habit of not touching your face at all. Try to keep your hands busy throughout the day to avoid touching your face unnecessarily.
Mistake 7: Not Washing Your Face Properly
If you do not clean your face properly, it will not only look dull and dry, but it can also cause clogged pores and skin infections. It is essential to wash your face at least twice a day. Even splashing normal water on your face can help maintain its freshness. If you have oily skin, you may need to use soaps or herbal packs to clean it thoroughly.
Conclusion
Your skin is the largest organ of your body, which also protects and defends the rest of the body. Therefore, it is your “sua Dharma” or personal duty to keep it clean and free from infection. Use a mild natural skincare routine and cultivate good hygienic practices to keep your skin always fresh and glowing.
